Discover Slovakia with STS Car Rental
Renting a car in Slovakia is the most practical way to travel across the country and see as much as possible in a single trip. Slovakia is very compact: modern cities, medieval castles, and stunning national parks are just a couple of hours' drive from each other. Furthermore, a car makes it much more convenient to reach unique spots that are difficult to access by train or organized tour—whether it’s hidden thermal springs, picturesque mountain villages, or the famous karst caves.

Everything you need to know about renting a car in Slovakia
1. A valid Passport or EU ID card
2. Your Driver's License: We accept standard national licenses as long as your name is printed in Latin letters. Otherwise, please bring along an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Great news: Unlike many other agencies, we absolutely do not require a credit card at pick-up!
For higher-tier vehicles (such as premium cars, SUVs, or minivans), the minimum age is 25. Please also note that a small "Young Driver" surcharge may apply to drivers aged 21 to 24 (inclusive) depending on the selected rate.
When to pay: The main rental balance is paid directly when you sign the contract and receive the keys. For advance online bookings, only a small prepayment may be required to secure your vehicle.
How to pay: We accept all major personalized bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro). If you prefer to pay in cash at pick-up, simply mention this preference when submitting your booking request.
However, please note a small exception: if the vehicle is returned excessively dirty (e.g., heavy mud inside after mountain trips, stained seats, excessive pet hair, or tobacco odor), an extra deep cleaning fee may apply. With normal, careful use, there will be no extra charges!
How it works: At pick-up, we will note the exact fuel level on your rental agreement together. You simply need to return the vehicle with the exact same amount of petrol or diesel.
For airport arrivals: If your flight to Slovakia is delayed, we will track it using your flight number. Our manager will wait for you at no extra cost (within reasonable limits).
For returns: If you realize you won't be able to return the car on time, please contact us by phone or via messaging apps as soon as possible. A short delay (up to 1 hour) is usually free of charge. For longer delays, an additional day’s rental may be charged according to our standard rates.
Please note: Damage to tires, glass, side mirrors, and the undercarriage is not covered by the basic policy. For full protection, we recommend choosing our Gold coverage plan (which also includes a zero-deposit benefit).
The deposit is released immediately upon the car's return and inspection. If the funds were held on your bank card, the actual time it takes for the funds to appear back in your account depends on your bank and typically takes between 1 and 7 business days.
1. Zero Security Deposit: We do not place any hold on your bank card.
2. Full Protection: Coverage includes elements not covered by the basic plan, such as tires, windshields, side mirrors, and the undercarriage—a feature especially valuable for driving on mountain roads.
3. Quick & Easy Return: No need to worry about minor parking scratches. The vehicle drop-off takes just a few minutes, with no tedious inspection process.
1. In case of an accident: Immediately call the police (dial 112 in Slovakia) and do not leave the scene. It is mandatory to obtain a police report; without it, insurance coverage will not apply.
2. In case of a breakdown: Park the car in a safe location, turn on your hazard lights, and set up the emergency warning triangle.
3. Contact us: Whether it’s an accident or a breakdown, call our 24/7 support line as soon as possible (the number is listed in your rental agreement). We will guide you through the next steps and promptly organize roadside assistance or a vehicle replacement.
